Standardised tests for monitoring progress

Hello,
I’m posting here and in the staff room too. My son has an EHCP for dyslexia. His annual review will be coming up in the next couple of months and as far as I know, our school does not use any standardised tests to monitor progress. They just go on assessments either written by the teachers or a bought in scheme of work.
I would like to know exactly how much progress my son is making so that I can approach the LEA with regards to a specialist school. I will need concrete evidence of progress or not.
Can anyone recommend a brand of standardised test for this purpose?
Thanks!

The school should be able to tell you how much progress he is making and whether he is working at age appropriate levels.

If you are looking for evidence to show that the current school is not meeting his needs, I would have thought an assessment by an EP with knowledge and experience of dyslexia and/ or a report from a dyslexia specialist teacher would be the way to go.

Thanks Ellie. It’s tricky because of the current situation but I’m thinking about the future too here.

I am not convinced the school are giving a full picture of actual progress or will be able to based on their assessments. I would like concrete data based on a standardised test.

When the CP and EP assessed our son they carried out a number of formal tests which indicated exactly where his problems lay, and also showed where he was in comparison to similar aged children.

Thanks. My son has been tested formally and I have a very detailed report from the EP. I’m after something that can be done yearly or twice a year to indicate how much progress he is making. Something like CATs or WRATs although I understand that there are problems with SEN children accessing the questions in CATs.
I wondered if anyone knows of a good package to use.
I teach at the same school so I have a good understanding of what they are using at the moment and I don’t think it’s reliable.
