How does an EHCP and a house move work?

My year 4 daughter has autism and is selectively mute.

We are in the process of an EHCP.

I lay awake at night worrying about her going to high school and one of the main things I want the EHCP to do is find her a suitable high school, most likely a specialist ASD school or unit.

We currently live in Kent but are likely to move to the midlands due to work before she starts high school. So I am just wondering how on earth this would work with high schools on the EHCP?

Thank you

You would be best moving before the transfer review. Otherwise you risk the process being much harder, the LA may have already allocated SS and ARP places (either provisionally or formally depending on when you do move). The bar for not naming a placement because it is full is relatively high, but that doesn't stop the LA trying to use that argument and it would be easier to remove that problem.

When you move LAs with an EHCP the new LA becomes responsible for the EHCP. They will review it within 12 months of the last AR or 3 months of transfer whichever is later. However, lots of LAs will review EHCPs to try to remove provision.

If you don't move until Y6 and need to go to tribunal for content or because the LA cease to maintain transfer to Y7 may be more difficult.

But don't move whilst in the process of the needs assessment.
