Is it viable to go private for ADHD therapy/mental health support?

DS is 7. He shows all sorts of ADHD symptoms. I myself was diagnosed when I was near 40. So I'm certain he has the condition.

However, he's academically alright (obviously involved a large amount of catch-up/hard work at home). Socially, he might still be too young to be judged. So from school, apart from his teacher said he should really work on his concentration/focus, we haven't heard any concern from school.

So DH doesn't want to go through formal diagnosis. But my worry only grows over time, as he is supposed to mature like his peers, so the gap will only become more and more obvious. He has already sensed he's "powerless" in front of all the impulsivity/difficulty of concentration/bad working memory/constantly messing up thing. He cries more these days than ever, often mumbling "It's all my fault." It's just heartbreaking for me to hear.

So I am very keen to get some professional support for him - as simple as to explain to him the fact that "none of these is his fault", "he CAN do well in things" and help him to find a set of strategies based on his personal circumstance.

Is this a viable routine at all if we don't go down the public (everyone seeing it) route?

Would appreciate any sharing based on past experiences...
