Hi, our son has just been diagnosed with Dyslexia and Dyspraxia. He’s a really bright little boy but has processing speed difficulties and can’t keep up at school and has gaps in phonics and maths. We are considering a more specialist school and would love to hear from anyone with experience of Moon hall (Reigate or Dorking ) or Kingswood House (Epsom) for key stage 2, years 3-6. He's a very sociable little boy and happy at his current school but we can see it’s already impacting on his confidence as he thinks he’s not very bright. Thanks for your help. So anxious to choose the right setting.

My son has dyslexia and we are in the process of applying for an EHCP.

I have looked at both schools and prefer Moon Hall on the basis that he would be going into year 7 and that he could stay there.

It has a new head and it’s rapidly improving. I know staff in the school too who think it’s amazing.

It’s unfortunately only an option for my son if he gets funding though because I can’t afford private school fees.

If you can get your son into a specialist environment before the self esteem issues become ingrained, all the better. It’s too late for my son now. He has labelled himself as stupid and we’re into all sorts of mental health issues. It will take a hell of a lot to change that mind set.

Good luck!

Look at More House in Farnham only from year 4 but goes up to sixth form. Moon Hall can be a good option and then many are to move on in year 7 to a mainstream school. You really need to look to see if Kingswood House can really support your child you need specialist SEN support not just a small school.

Thanks very much, good luck with the EHCP. I think Moon Hall would be ideal at year 7 but am anxious as there are so few children in KS2.

Thanks rocketleagueboy More house looks fantastic but is too far to get to for us and we ideally want somewhere more local. I've heard great things though. I'm trying to work out the difference between the study centre at Kingswood house and how that might differ from a Dyslexia setting as they both support Dyslexia. Thanks so much

My son has EHCP for dyslexia and moon hall were very unhelpful when we made enquires. Probably just us, but the head teacher was condescending and snooty. I got the impression they only want the fees for mildly dyslexic children, those who warrant and EHCP are too much.

I’ve just read that moon hall has a new head!! Fingers crossed this one has a better attitude!! Grin

Thanks Lanbury. The new head seems very approachable and very proud of the recent results

The new head is absolutely lovely. I thought so when I met her and I know the staff really like her too.
