Paediatric assessment for ASD - what to expect?

I’m just looking for a bit of advice really as this is all so new to me and I have no-one in real life to discuss with.

We’ve been waiting for a paediatrician appointment since March last year for DS 3. He was referred to SALT for language delay and they’ve queried autism due to not sharing interest with them during their assessments.

The appointment is in a few weeks and I’ve been told it’s 1.5hrs long. Can anyone tell me what it entails? Do you get the results there and then or is it more waiting?

I’m just so anxious about it because we’ve been waiting for so long.

The trouble is, this is different in every authority.
In Some authorities children are assessed by CAMHS and in others it is at the CDC .

Where I am it would be a multi-disciplinary team and then they meet and report back to the Paediatrician, after they have assessed all the children they see that week - so, no, in our authority you wouldn't get diagnosis on the day.
Where I am, you'd see the Paediatrician first, and then go on the waiting list for a MDT assessment - that is a longer wait than 9 months.
However, As I say, every authority is different.
If you want to put where you are in the country, people wiith local knowledge might be able to be more helpful.

Thanks for replying. I’ve found a local autism centre so I think I’m going to pay them a visit. I had no idea that the process was different in each area.

I’m in Cheshire if that helps.
