Ds is ok at school however they picked up lack of social awareness too. He is academic but struggles socially . My question is would school just not say as he is fine there, there is not a lot they will do? Should i go to gp?

I feel like I've come in half way through a longer discussion.....

You said however they picked up lack of social awareness too. Do you mean 'as well as other things' or do you mean you have picked up a lack of social awareness and now the school have mentioned it as well ?

How old is ds?
What do you think he should be assessed for?
What other differences does he display ?

Thanks so much bacforgood. Yes this is a other post after my initial thread not getting any replies so I made it a bit shorter 😊
Have been to gp today and started the ball rolling so will just wait and see thank you.

What does "ok at school" mean? Does this mean school is measuring his academic achievement, but you think development is not as it should be?

Thanks Violets what it meant is that during last parents evening we were told by his math teacher that while academicly he exceeds others and is on the gifted register. His social skills are lacking such as his awareness to others/empathy eg shouting out during class as he feels he should answer questions and just doesn't have a turn off button which I think sometimes gets understood as incredibly enthusiastic but at home it's sometimes seems like obsessions over certain things he will not drop until he has been satisfied. Teacher said they are working on him but must admit we had not gone into details as such. At the beginning of the year they put him into a behaviour lunch time class with others who in my opinion have similar issues socially and they did role plays and talked about situations so assumed it was part of it

That doesn't sound as though all is OK at school. He may be doing well academically, but there is much more to school than that. Your DS is struggling socially and emotionally. Role play/social stories will help, but he needs support. Have you met with the school's SENCO? Being academically able is of little use if you can not function in everyday life.

It sounds to me as if they are putting forth minimal effort. How old is he? What is he being assessed for? Sadly, it's quite common for poor mental health to get in the way of academic potential.
