Educational psychologist / poor working memory

Hello,

Just wondering if 6.5 years old is too young to test for poor working memory and dyslexia type symptoms?

And does having a statement of poor working memory get you more time on an exam at 7+ or 11+ or is it just for dyslexia?

Finally, does anyone recommend an educational psychologist in London?

Thanks!

6.5 yrs is generally thought to be too young for an assessment but a private ed psych may do it. Try looking up Dyslexia Institute to see if they will do it.
Poor working memory will get you extra time at any age but it needs to be backed up by evidence that this is the usual way of working. A line drawn under a piece of work showing where extra time started, dated and timed, on a number of different pieces of work over 2 terms will usually do,

You might be able to find a Specialist Dyslexia tutor who does a Dyslexia screening: www.patoss-dyslexia.org/Tutor-Index-Landing

My DS was accepted in our local Independent school and we already had all the diagnosis done for Dyspraxia (except for Ed Psych assessment). We were very honest with them about his difficulties and weaknesses.

The SENCo was very grateful that we did, and it played in our favour. A good school will have good provisions for SEN kids.

Also, there are games to improve working memory:
