Education Psychologist- Autistic child

My daughter is Autistic and she has quite a lot of sensory needs.

I was wondering how you would request an educational psychologist to see if she needs help in other ways.

To clarify she is very bright but struggles with inference and social aspects of learning.

I also feel we are fobbed off so was wondering if it is even something that can be requested.

After repeated contact with school this year ,the head of year requested it for Ds,his is later this month.
I'm sure I read on a different post that you can request one yourself from the EA .
I don't know if this depends on child's age.

Bumping anyway as hopefully someone else might know more than I do.

Schools have to pay for them but tbh they will only do it if it will benefit the school. They are not obliged to get one done. If you do want one and the school are reluctant then you may have to pay for it privately.

Academy schools do have to buy in the services of an educational psychologist so I think at times schools seem reluctant to do so.

Ds is currently being assessed for asd. He has had no formal assessments with the Ed pysch. The school have asked her advice a couple of times and I think she may have done a brief classroom observation of him, but that's it. His school have done some screening and say there are no cognitive issues so he will not be able to access the Ed pysch. Even though Ds feels he has issues with his memory.

Like Amazing says it may be something that would have to be paid for privately if you can afford it.

I am a SENCO in a secondary school and am lucky enough currently to have persuaded the head to buy a large package of Ed Psych hours but this isn’t normal. Typically in all the schools I have worked in maybe 4 students saw the ed psych all year so you constantly had to prioritise. This doesn’t make it right but it might explain the school’s hesitancy. I hope your child is seen.
I would say though - have you considered whether ed psych is the right referral? All my students who need assessments around sensory needs go to Occupational Therapy and social skills and inference go to Speech and Language.
