Hi,
I’ve a bit of a school problem, though I suspect it’s more of a old school/outdated deputy head problem who isn't getting invisible disability & making no allowance for it😏
I know we’re in the right & I will tackle this head on, but wondering if there’s any links etc as regards disability discrimination in schools that I can wave at her if needed.
Situation is that for GCSEs the kids qualify for home study privileges only IF they have a good enough attendance score & a good enough attitude to learning score.
My daughter has hEDS, migraine, functional B12 deficiency & more, which naturally affects her attendance & im really not happy that her diagnosed disability hasn’t been taken into account
Same goes with attitude to learning score. On approaching teachers who gave her a good score rather than excellent score last time round & asking why. It was unanimously because she doesn’t speak up enough in class discussions, put her hand up with answers etc. All a direct result of her raging anxiety which is well documented with school & GP to the point where she has diazepam for her exams.
I think this is a teacher problem not accepting invisible disability rather than a school problem, as this isn’t the first problem with this woman who is a very old school judgemental type of person & I need to take her down quickly without too much hassled possible as I’m wiped out myself
DD benefits a LOT from study breaks at home as high exam anxiety generally means she doesn't sleep around exams & revises into the night, then going into school with little or no sleep. Being able to sleep late & go into school just for exams if she's this exhausted will give her a far better chance of success
Can anyone help with relevant information please??
