Hello,

DS (six) has been diagnosed with high functioning autism and ADHD and is struggling in school despite them being lovely and supportive. Currently doesn't qualify for any extra classroom support although this is being looked at. He seems well liked by his peers but halfway through year 1 has never been invited round for tea or anything like that which saddens me. His dad is also very likely on the spectrum and can come across as quite odd, socially, and due to my work commitments he does most of the school runs. My feeling is that doesn't help with DS fitting in as ime people who are 'different' tend to just get left out. DS has also moved into a different class this year so maybe that hasn't helped (although it has been very good for him).

Anyway, I don't want to move him at this stage but am definitely considering it for the future just in terms of accessing the best support and being in an environment where hopefully he can thrive.

Edgerton Rothesay is a school not too far from us and I think they specialise in autism and ADHD. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this school as either a parent or teacher and can tell me a bit more? Thanks in advanceSmile.

What would you like to know? Currently there are children from yr3 through to 6th form. Small classes. Specialist support on site. Caters for a range of needs including asd, adhd, anxiety, specific learning difficulties, speech and language difficulties to name a few. Most but not all pupils have an EHCP. Places are difficult to secure because the school is currently full so only able to consider pupils in certain yr groups.... but a few places in the junior section.

Thanks for replying. I'm mainly trying to get an idea of what range of special needs are catered for in terms of severity, and whether that would be a good fit for DS socially/academically.

The school offers a differentiated mainstream curriculum. Pupils are taught in small classes and are set for English and maths and in senior school for science as well. In terms of severity the children have a range of needs but most are working above the level of special school and in key stage 4 some take a range of GCSE exams others may take BTec or asdan or entry level qualifications depending on their ability.

Hello,Cellibabies

Just wondering if you had any updates since your last post? My son is 6 with HFA os attending a mainstream primary at the moment but we are considering a specialist setting for him going forward. Wanted to find about if you had any success with admissions in the ERS?
