Suspected dyspraxia in 10 year old

Weird time to be posting about it but I've been looking it up whilst I can't sleep.
DS has always had a lot of problems with co ordination, struggles to walk in a straight line, struggles with his handwritting, balance, he's always falling over and walking into things. Can't catch or throw things very well, causing him to dread PE lessons. He only recently got the hang of riding a bike although he's been trying to learn on and off from about age 6. He can tie his shoe laces but does it by creating two loops and tying them together, admittedly that's how I do it. He holds pens and cutlery in quite unusual ways...the list goes on and I didn't realise untill now that dyspraxia can affect social commication, though I'm not sure what it affects exactly he does struggle with social situations, with social skills aren't great in general.

I only really fully knew what dyspraxia was a few years ago, I realised this could explain a lot about myself but also realised DS has a lot of the same problems. I don't think I would benefit from a diagnosis now but I think I would have during school so perhaps DS would. I would appreciate some advice as honestly I don't know a lot about it

My DS is 10 and has just been diagnosed as having DCD, development coordination disorder.

He has always struggled with tasks such as tying shoe laces, buttering bread, using a knife at meals times etc. Throwing/catching a ball has come with practice but he’s still a bit “butter fingers”. He can’t ride a bike.
He’s quite clumsy.

DS is left handed so as parents and his school assumed some of his struggles were down to this. I had searched Dyspraxia and DCD but wasn’t sure how to get a referral.

When he started year 5 one of his teachers was the schools SENCO and it was at a parents evening we were discussing the legibility of his hand writing and how righting causes him pain that she asked if we wanted to be referred to Occupational Therepy to see if they could help.

From this appointment we were then referred for a DCD assessment, which we’ve had this week.

The school SENCO has been amazing and has really understood DS’s difficulties. Maybe you could speak to the SENCO at school?

DS’s school have put things into place to help DS such as he has a writing slope and can use the computers if it’s a long piece of work.

He’s year 6 now and I was worried about the transition to high school. The therapist algae written to school so the findings and recommendations will be on his file.

Hope this helps. There is a section on the NHS website for DCD
