SENCO school assessment - how long for results?

Hi my son was assessed by SENCO last week. I knew it would happen a few weeks ago, but I have no idea what they did or what they were looking at.

How long should it take to share the results with parents? Do they explain the process or do you just get a brief idea of your child's needs?

Do you mean the school SENCo, or do you mean someone from outside the school (potentially an Area SENCo - though names vary across the country) ?

How old is he ?

Do you mean a CATs test? The SENCO (as a general rule) is a coordinator and not qualified to assess or diagnose. sounds like an internal school thing rather than anything official in which case chase it Smile

Thanks, I got a paper back with four sentences. Looks like a basic iq test with verbal, not verbal and two working memory tests. No processing skills. Odd as that was the area I thought they were going to test. I guess schools don’t discuss details of the tests with parents beforehand? Yes, was a district SENCO. There was no explanation whatsoever, but luckily I have been through this with my older son so already have an idea.

Yeh “Cognotive Abitlity Test” (CAT) schools use them a lot but not the same as an SEN assessment or diagnosis. Hopefully you can use it as a starting point to get weak areas better supported though Smile
