I was told that they use it in Northern Irish schools.

I’ve been told that is can help with dyslexia.

Thanks

No, but my son did something similar called brain integration. It worked for him. He was diagnosed dyslexic, SPD, but they can't see any issues now. He is basically no longer dyslexic! He also did vision therapy.

Sounds bit like retained primitive reflex programme (see exercises on youtube - v expensive to do it privately) and other motor based programmes like brain gym and motor skills united (an OT written programme). Various arguments about RTR and Brain gym but to be honest, I think all movement based programmes can do some good where a child has delayed skills in gross/fine motor. These often overlap with dyslexia (50 per cent overlap with dyspraxia and other specific learning disorders). No harm in trying and seeing if it helps. Kids do too much sitting and not enough moving. Moving is part of what we have evolved to do - Movement Matters website is good.

Movement breaks (deep pressure like self hugs) can help with concentration in class or during homework - it has really helped us!

Good luck x

Ditto the primitive reflexes. My son had retained ATNR. I think a lot of the therapies use similar methods eg vision therapy used similar sensory and primitive integration methods. I switched to this therapy after our SPD therapist left and Ed Psych assessment showed specific difficulties with vision. My therapist is now in Devon if anyone wants her details I can share!

BABO is good for finding help with vision - small eye muscle problems can be helped resolve via simple exercises, but behavioural optometrist will help identify the specifics - tracking vertical and horizontal often a problem for children with dyslexia and other co-occurring things and convergence too. Fancy pen tops and marbles are the kind of tools used which make it fun for the child.

@Allusernamestakenbutthis I know this is an old post but I'm in Devon and need someone to evaluate my daughter for retained primitive reflexes. Can you tell me the name and details of your therapist?

Did you find Devon details???
