Any views on Fairley House school?

Our DS has done assessment days at Fairley House and we are very likely going to send him there.

I wondered if anyone has any experience of this school?

DS has been at another dyslexia school for a year but hasn't really settled, for various reasons.

I'd love to hear any thoughts!

We visited Fairley house a couple of years ago. I didn’t really warm to the place but my husband liked it. In the end we didn’t send our son there as we felt that the benefit he was getting from a local primary outweighed the educational benefits of going to Fairley. Having said that, it was recommended as an option by his developmental paediatrician. I think it is such a personal decision that only you know if it will benefit your child and if you feel it will then most likely you are right. It’s really expensive though! Good luck and I hope you find someone with experience of attending.

Thank you Raaah, glad your DS is getting the support he needs. I agree it's a very personal decision!

I'm also very interested in hearing any recent feedback about Fairley House. Is your DS there now?

My daughter is at Fairley House. It has taken a while (over a year) but she is really happy and making fantastic progress, on target to return to mainstream schooling for secondary. As well as the dyslexia specific teaching the school really focus on confidence building. DD has had a complete change in her attitude towards learning. The parents of children in DD's year are pretty much all relieved and delighted to have their children there - eye watering cost aside!

We were a bit slow in getting our DS (who is nearly 7) getting our son diagnosed with Dyslexia and unfortunately we put him a French Bilingual primary which as it has turned out was fairly disastrous. The dyslexia and fast pace of the curriculum, large classes has left his confidence very knocked with him wanting to avoid work in school entirely although he works pretty well at home when he's not worried about "failing" and how he's doing compared to the rest of the class. The two languages and French system have compounded the problems for him, unfortunately.

So, what you are saying sounds very reassuring and we will try to visit the school ASAP, thanks for letting us know your experience!
