Any tips for helping with gcse English for dyslexic son? Particularly language

His issues are writing and spelling rather than reading. He gets extra time and a lap top.

School haven’t come up with any suggestions and I’ve bought one of those model answers revision book. He failed language and scraped a pass in literature in his mocks.

Any good websites/ books?

Thanks

A real life tutor will be best. This is what we’ve done for DS1 - he’s gone from 52% at beginning of Yr10 and just got 68% in gcse mocks for English lit and English language. We only did 3 sessions before the exams as just started tutoring in mid December. DS has worked really hard. He was 1 mark off a Grade 7 in both too

I’d be happy with 52%! I just worry that the ones who really know about the new exams won’t necessarily know about dyslexia. I have a friend who is head of English at a secondary and knows very little about it.

So you approach a tutoring agency and ask for a SPLD qualified English teacher. The other option is to approach a Dyslexia centre to tutoring help. Can he Touch Type? If not I’d recommend Touch, Type, read and Spell which is dyslexia based and will help with spelling too. Both my boys used this method to Touch Type and really boosted spelling

Yes he’s done TTRS and a spelling program called Arrow.

Thanks for you help, I’ve contacted my local dyslexia association and they are getting back to me with tutor suggestions , so fingers crossed!
