16 year old dd has just been diagnosed with dyslexia in year 12 as her new school routinely screens all pupils at the beginning of the new school year.
She got very good GCSE results (1x9, 1x8, 4x7 & 4x6) but was predicted / targeted mostly 8s and 9s. She has always struggled with writing essays - her verbal skills far outweighed anything she got down on paper.
Her dyslexia diagnosis was a big shock but everything now seems to fall into place - her lack of timekeeping, disorganised, doesn't know left from right. But she was a very early and fluent reader and has had no spelling issues, so we never thought she could be dyslexic.
Highest score:
WRIT vocabulary = 136
Lowest scores which give dyslexia diagnosis:
CTOPP Rapid naming composite = 73
CTOPP Phonological Awareness composite = 82
The report stated that she must have massively compensated throughout her school career to achieve the GCSE results that she did.
Her dyslexia test results are interesting, but I'd like to get an idea of how 'serious' her dyslexia is and even though the report recommendations are useful, and advice from others in the same position would be gratefully received!
Thanks!
