Exam access sitting in a separate room?

Does anyone know what their DCs school access arrangements are with regards to the examination hall?

DS has just sat an entrance exam for a senior school and he was in with the rest of the kids (who didn't have extra time). So he was disturbed when they came in after he started.

Is this normal or do other schools separate the kids?

It depends on the school as different schools will have a different layout, different numbers of kids with SEN etc.

I just assumed they’d separate out - to stop kids being disturbed.

That doesn't sound right. If your DS is supposed to have extra time he should have the exam in a separate room so he doesn't get disturbed. I would complain.

When my DS did school entrance all the kids with extra time were in another room

DDs experience is that they are normally all in the same room. The extra time pupils sit at the back. However they normally start at the same time as everyone else but leave later (which is preferable since it gives thinking time during the disruption and before the clock starts ticking again). BUT if the others leaving the room disrupts your DC the school will make an adjustment so they can take the exam in a different room. You need to discuss this with the school.
