Hi all, I'm very new to all of this and a bit sensitive so please be gentle. Does anyone have any experience of going private for an ADHD/ASD assessment? Currently getting nowhere with usual channels and we're considering all options. TIA

We paid privately for an ADHD diagnosis for our then 6yr old. The alternative would have been a 2 yr wait on the NHS which we couldn't face.
We had the full support of the school who filled in all the questionnaires needed for the assessment. We decided that we would go down the medication route for our boy, we had to pay privately for the first 4m of prescriptions until he was settled at which point our GP agreed to shared care so they now issue his prescriptions. We still have 3 monthly reviews which we pay for but it was honestly the best decision we made. Good luck

Thanks @SleepyPaws . How did you find a reputable dr? I'm a bit at sea with it all at the moment!

Good old Google was the starting point for us. We searched for a child psychiatrist in our area and were very lucky to find one with a very good reputation. Try to find one with reviews if you can.

How old is your child? Where do you live? If you live in South East/London I can recommend someone.

Hi!
Feel free to pm me. Have v recently gone down the route of a private referral. We went through gp to ensure it would be someone reputable and also a diagnosis (if given) that would ‘count’ at school and not be dismissed.
The dr we were referred to is actually part time CAMHs so could very well have been who we saw on nhs in the end anyway.
Also- we spent the first session really reinforcing we weren’t looking for a label in the slightest- just understanding and guidance especially as we thought there might be more than one overlapping issues making it quite complex. This has helped reassure us they weren’t going to say what they thought we wanted to hear and be thorough.
