...he'd stuck tissue paper too far down his ear canal to be removed. Managed to remove it at home to save us a trip to A&E! Anyway, he did it because he 'can't stand the noise' in his classroom (sensory issues).

Has anyone else successfully helped their DC with noisy classrooms? Are the allowed earmuffs/defenders at certain times??

Many children wear ear defenders. It is a very reasonable adjustment that the school should have no issue with for a child who is hypersenstive to noise.

Our school have a batch of ear defenders they make available for children who struggle with noisy environments. They offered me them to be used for DD2 who has sensory issues - but in her case it's just things like hand driers and other children crying that distress her.

Thanks end, let's hope they can put something in place. I've requested a meeting with teacher/head.
