Hi, my son was recently diagnosed as a high-functioning ASD child. He is currently in a mainstream school in London, but they do not have much experience with children such as my son, and I was hoping to begin gathering more information about mainstream schools with a high-level of SEN experience both in London, as well as schools within 1-2 hrs of the city. It may also be interesting to hear if any of you ha e experience at SEN schools for kids who want to be academically challenged but need social communication/ behavioural support. Any opinions are useful! Thank you.

I am also looking. I enrolled my daughter at Riverston this year with an expensive care package, and already have concerns. There seems to be this gap between Mainstream and Special and nothing in between. I have tried other private schools and encountered the same problem as you - lack of SEN provision. Not sure what to do next.

Have you looked at the Priory schools? Our son is in one of their colleges which is brilliant. Their students range from non verbal to those who go on to university.

You could try Canbury in Kingston.

Have a look at St Nicholas Prep - v impressive SENCO.

St Nicholas has a fantastic senco and headmistress, great teachers, students and environment, but can only handle neurotypical children with some learning difficulties. ASD children are asked to leave. SENCO believes that ASD children should be in special schools and not mainstreamed for their own good. Best to keep looking for an inclusive school, very difficult for an ASD child who loves his/her school, teachers and friends to have to leave, how can you explain to him/her why he is thrown out?
