What now?

My gp sent a referral for my daughter to start an autism diagnosis but warned me that because it wasn’t a sever case there might not be the funding and they might reject the referral.

Well that’s exactly what has happened, school cant help much because she masks at school and it all comes out at home.

So what do I do now for my daughter who can’t cope at birthday paties and in noisy, busy situations, what do I do about the fact she is unable to play how her friends would like which is resulting in loss of friendships. How do I deal with the melt downs and violence at home, how do I work around the fact she constantly dominates conversations with her very limited and specific interests?

What the actual hell am I meant to do now?
Just sit and until it becomes an issue at school and they can support the referral? Just sit and watch her struggle, watch her loose friends and become isolated?
I need help and support because nothing I do now helps her. I know a diagnosis isn’t a magic wand that will change everything but it’s something, it’s a reason, it’s the door to some support and to other people who understand and accept. I just feel like I’ve let her down.

You haven't let her down, the system in your authority has.

Have a look at the NAS (National Autism Society) website (or your local branch. They don't need a proven diagnosis to support people.

In our area autism groups for young children that would allow your child to socialise with their peers are accessible whilst awaiting diagnosis.

You can also get support from such groups
