Have just received Ds (7) draft statment, which says school have to meet his needs from existing funds, except for 6 hours a year SALT(to include time talking to staff etc) if he remains at MS! I thought the whole point of a statement was to support Ds not abandon him! He has MLD, ASD traits, language profoundly delayed, and frankly has been very poorly supported due to lack of funds! Is there any way of getting through to Ipsea (I have been ringing almost daily since january)I am completley mistified! Anyone got any advise! Thanks

That sounds really poor level of support. Any way you can appeal?

We can ask for a meeting, and or write within 15 days. I feel so stunned! Its as if they have overlooked his complete lack of progress.

Sounds a bit odd!

As a general rule schools are expected to fund upto approx 15 hrs a week support from their own funds rather than using AEN funding. This is usually on School Action + rather than on a statement.

Getting SaLT specified in terms of hours is really good - i'm talking about the specification rather than the level of support! Most LEAs are still reluctant to talk in terms of hours despite the legal ruling.

Is this a review of statement or a new statement? I think I would be pushing for specification of hours support and how it is to be provided. Whats your general feeling about how the draft has been written, is it specific, measurable etc or vague?

Realistically I think you have a LEA that won't play ball until you appeal. IPSEA have an email on their site for anyone going to tribunal, if thats where you're going you can use that i think

Are you aware the NAS has an educational line? They're wuite good, if you leave a number they phone you back relaibaly. have had help from them in the past (antional austistic society)
