Well we received our proposed statement for dd today

they have only put in their (lea)proposal to reduce hours...ignored all other specialist advice and to make matters worse...they do not even get dd's name correct in all of the document

we will be taking this further...anyone have any good advice please?

NO idea but Grr on your behalf!

Think you are same LEA as me? Crap aren't they!

chatee · 06/05/2007 11:06

MrsWho,
Thanks for the reply-I didn't realise(or have you name changed.....not that i still would realise)that there is some one else in this lea catchment that thinks they are c r a p !!!!.
Dh has just popped over my shoulder and said "beware it could be xxxx(named lea officer)in disguise"

I am in the suburbs of the great border city(if that helps)

(nikkie) it is you in cumbria isn't it?
I think we have had a similar conversation before?

chatee · 06/05/2007 19:21

aha- yes now i remember....did you get any further with salt for your dd?

have you heard that apparently ot is going to be provided for all children with sn up til the age of 11??
without the need for it on individual childs statement

somehow i don't think i will settle for that idea as there is such a shortage of ot's around here(and nationally!!)that i just can't see how they will provide if any more left their jobs(around here anyway)

There is 2 covering the south, and one is one Mat leave so that one is covering 2 jobs.My (SN) school has 3 hours a week and we have 80 kids( only 35 under 11 though).

It may explain why she stopped seeing my 1:1 though as he is over 11

MrsWho · 06/05/2007 19:39

DDs SALT has suddenly got very interested in her , and has applied for funding for extra time for he r to practice in school. She is now seeing SALT every 2 weeks and before that it was once a term (if I nagged!) so think its a good thing (though may mean she is worse than I thought)

roisin · 06/05/2007 19:52

that's really surprised me! DS1 was referred to SALT (for articulation rather than language probs) when we were in Oxfordshire and had sporadic sessions, with very little effect; but we did get a "referral" letter when we moved up here.

Within a few weeks of being here they had sorted out sessions for him; he had a superb SALT who really connected with him, and he had weekly sessions. He had about 6 sessions then a month off, then another 6 and so on for about a year! Then for the next couple of years he had 2 or 3 sessions a year.

I assumed it was a wonderful area for SALT?!

His speech is not 'perfect', but he is easy to understand now, though he sounds odd. It doesn't bother him, so he's not motivated to change. I'm hoping when he gets a bit older he will want to address it, and maybe do some drama/elecution-type lessons or something.

MrsWho · 06/05/2007 20:05

Well we missed 6 months when they had told me it was happening at school and school assumed I was still taking her.
Her speech is still difficult if you don't know her and a couple of weeks ago dd1 and I didn't understand
Her SALT is the head one and apparantly she gets sidetracked

roisin · 07/05/2007 10:44

Is it articulation problems, or language generally? How old is she now?

MrsWho · 07/05/2007 18:25

Roisin is that at me? I'll answer anyway she is 5 (6 in Sept) its mainly articulation now up until last summer her language was still quite basic, she still says things like 'me want' though but school seems to have helped her.SALT says she is having to relearn how to pronounce things as she misses most of the sounds.(majority of endings and some beginnings)

Chatee- Is it a new statement? or revised? sounds like you have enoughto complain about especially if they got her name wrong How long do you have to accept it?

(and sorry for th hi-jack)

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/05/2007 18:53

Try to get a hold of IPSEA as well as complaining to the LEA (they I think have an e-mail facility or call them).

chatee · 07/05/2007 19:38

no it's not a new statement, dd has had the same statement since june 2004!!!when she was in pre school and then reception..year 1 and 2 (nothing has changed...no only the fact she is now working along the national curriculum and not foundation stage...)and now this is in preparation for ks2.
everyone at the meeting agreed that it needed amending and this is the only lousy amendment the lea decide to make...
MrsWho - not sure how long to accept(will consult cumbria cerebral palsy support worker tomorrow)and btw -hijack away!!

interesting info about salt as i'm just waiting for my hv to come and visit ds (in order for her to put in a referral for him to gain some salt input)- i'll be well popular around here(not)

Chatee,

Apologies for my ignorance but has this been rewritten primarily because your DD is moving up to Junior school (from Y2 to Y3)?.

Not unfortunately surprised that this has happened if this is the case; the same scenario re reduction of hours also applied to us. Its primarily done to save money.

We fought this and lost but it does not mean to say that this will happen to you. They didn't even get her name right on the documenatation - the fools!!!.

chatee · 07/05/2007 20:06

AttilaTheMeerkat - yes she is moving to yr3 in september but we have had outstanding issues since year 1 that nothing has been done about[surprise, surprise]

we know it's just a way for them to save money, the hours they are reducing are the specialist teaching input(which is not great) but as they are amending we can fight for all other reccommendations to be put in statement eg Ot in parts 2 and 3,IT input...

will also be complaining about the name mistake too

will let you know how i get along

Hi Chatee

I'd guessed that the statement had been rewritten for her Junior school but did not want to jump in feet first without checking with your good self.

As mentioned my DS's statement was rewritten with fewer hours in it - its only change but one I was not happy about primarily because I worked it out for myself from my phone calls to them asking where his revised statement was!!.

Certainly tackle these people re the changes. I do not mean to sound defeatist but it may be damn nigh impossible to get OT support written into Part 2 short of going to Tribunal (which is an option open to you).
Do seek IPSEA's advice on how to proceed - they are very helpful when it comes to the minefield of statements and LEAs behaviours to do with same.

Would be interested to hear how you get on. I live in a county with an appalling track record as far as IPSEA is concerned.
