Aspergers in girls

We are starting to suspect that our DD1 (aged 9) might have Aspergers. We are not currently in a position to seek a diagnosis (we are abroad) but will be looking into that. In the meantime, what are the best books on Aspergers (especially in girls) that we could read to educate ourselves about it? Or would anyone be willing to talk about their own experience with this? Thanks.

Following. My daughter has recently been diagnosed and I'm also looking for some good books specifically about girls.

You may find that you get more responses if you post in the Special Needs - Children chat area

Thanks. I'll do that.

Not a book, but, IMO, worth doing an internet search for a group called 'Positive About Autism'. I get a regular e-mail newsletter from them (think it is about once a fortnight) and it is a series of links to all sorts of articles, discussions and research on all sorts of aspects of Autism, not exclusively, but they do include articles about girls.

Wendy Lawson (now Wen Lawson) and Temple Grandin are interesting people to read up about in terms of autism and being female - from an autobiographical pov.
Claire Sainsbury's 'Martian in the Playground' is a good read too.

My daughter was diagnosed in July aged 12 and I found the girl with the curly hair website and books really useful, very basic straightforward advice aimed at girls' traits that she has since read herself and found informative. Is there a particular area you're looking advice on?

My daughter is 8 and was diagnosed at 6. If you need any advice just let me know. I didn't really read any books but I am now fully aware lol

I would agree that the girl with the curly hair book is great, as is 10 things you should know about autism. Reading things by Tony Atwood is good and if your DD has sensory issues the NAS guide to sensory issues is great.

My DD is now 9 and was diagnosed aged 7. I have found that reading and attending local courses and joining local FB groups really helpful.

I would also remember that you are the expert when it comes to your DD - all the extra information is great but remember not all will apply to your child. You have spent 9 years amassing understanding and knowledge about your child, so even in this new territory you have to learn to trust your instincts.

Thanks for all your responses. There are actually two threads on the go. There other one is here:

I have appreciated all the input so far, and have started doing a bit of reading while we decide where to take it from here.
