So my son age 7 has always had concentration issues and been a bit different. He seems to have days when is present and other days where he is just not there in terms of listening and connecting. On bad days his behaviour is worse as he is not listening and also gets cross and frustrated. We went to a private psychologist before as I found parenting so hard but he was only age 5 and they said he may have some sensory issues but there were no major flags yet. Anyway now age 7 his current teacher has been on the phone and has us in twice to talk about his lack of listening. He is not disruptive in class but he often misses the instructions, tunes out or interprets the instructions in his own way. For example they drew out a story in pictures then had to write it out as a written piece. he drew the story then wrote a new story as he said why would he write the same one again. When he like focus he can not answer a simple question like 'did you do PE?' he will say 'what' and 'give me a minute mummy' and if you ask him too many things he will say 'my head is too full'. But at other times he can have an almost adult discussion and talk about a complex film or story. He is keeping up ok at school not top of class and a bit bad with writing and spelling. Maths and reading well.
I just feel he is constantly being badgered to focus but he is not doing it on purpose. When I read about ADHD inattentive it sounds a bit like that but maybe not fully? Does anyone have a similar experience. I feel sad as his current teacher feels she will just make him listen which I am not sure is possible!! He self confidence is so fragile already I want to make sure I do the best for him.
