DD is 10 and 2 1/2 years ago and we have serious issues with concentration or better say - distractions. She has traces of ADHD (this is how the paediatrician described her at the assessment we did 2 1/2 years ago) and gets very easily distracted. This causes now extreme tension at home.

Basically she is not able to follow a small "order" like go up, brush teeth, go to the toilet and wash yourself". We would normally expect this to take 20 minutes. It can be anything up to 1 hour with several check ups and getting her back on track because there is something in the bathroom or on the way up or in her sock which will distract her to a point that she totally forgets what she is actually supposed to do.

She gets annoyed and frustrated when DH then insists on staying with her. She is 10 and obviously wants privacy which we on one hand understand but on the other hand have to make sure that she is finishing.

Working with timers is useless, she will hear it but won't realise that she was supposed to finish something.

Asking her to bring her plate into the kitchen after a meal to get a yoghurt or some fruit can work or she can be stopping looking at a piece of paper we left on the worktop or whatever else catches her eye. The same with going upstairs bringing something down. By the time she is in her room she most likely forgot and will stay because her playmobil is suddenly interesting.

Basically we are lost what to do. Can somebody share their tips on how to keep children on track?

We know that routines help her a lot, she is doing fairly ok in school because she knows what happens when. Even at home we normally do things fairly consistent and there is not a lot of surprises as she can't handle the unsuspected unknown.
