Have tried IPSEA, engaged as ever

Quick one: (or 2 actually)

DS3's appliaction for a statement ahs gone in. The LEA say that as long as school is following advice given by their people, then no statement can be given- even if DS not making enough progress and school says they can't cope (statement required for SN school here). That's crap surely??? Also, advice doesn't include speech as he has no SALT access, and speech is a huge problem for him. They say thats irrelevant. I think they are talking out their behinds.

2:

DS1's application (sigh) panel was a montha go, still no answer. How long should that take (panel after assessments)

Peachy, am surrounded by statement writting paperwork also! My info doesnt say when you should hear only that they should decide (go to panel?)within 6 weeks of the application date and reply in writting. I guess you have the same information sheets. I dont suppose it helps to know that we heard very quickly (3 days after panel), which is just as well since we have a very tight deadline now!I cant get through to IPSEA either, I guess its 6 months to Sept (new school year). Do you have a number/ person to ring at your equivalent of county hall? Im in England so it may be different. Sorry I cant help. Hope the finding is favorable! Good luck.

The teacher called the LEA and was tolf of for doing so

I shall just have to wait I guess

The last BIBIC assessment gacve DS1 a reading / writing age of 4.10 yrs, which as he is 7.5 is quite behind isn't it? They're now saying he might not lear tor ead properly (something to do with letter closure- asin the same thinsg some dyslexics have but for different reasons). But we didn't know this when the ed psych came.

More urgent with ds3, as he doesn't have a school atm. This school can't take him but no other will without a statement.

Peachy, I am lost in a sea of papers ATM, but last night I read a booklet "A guide to the Statement of Special Educational Needs for parents of children with Down's Syndrome" A DSA publication- quite easy reading for my frazzled little brain.

Not sure this helps but it states:

" The LEA sholuld complete the assessment within 10 weeks from their decision to assess. They should let you know whether they will be making a Statement within a further 2 weeks........."
