DD will be 7 in august and has always been a bit of a handful. At the last parents evening we were told that she didn't understand that there was a consequence from her ations.

She never sits still and is on the go all day.

she has never slept through.

She can have the most amaizing tantrums chucking furniture sreaming and so on. this can be for no reason.

She switches from being loving to hateing everyone in the matter of seconds.

She has to touch everything.

Is their any cause for concern because i'm starting to worry there could be more too it.

TIA

Chlochol, I am sorry you sound so stressed. Don't really have any advise, but just wanted to give a bit of support.
Don't be afraid to go to the Doctor for some advise, it could be as simple as something missing from her diet or she may have a behavioural issue that can be easily corrected.
Have you talked to her teachers to find out what kind of attention they are giving to her, eg - are they being positive and encouraging or are they just waiting for the next negative action from her? - I think this interaction can make a massive difference to a child, if she has been labelled as naughty, why would she want to behave? - Perhaps she is attention seeking from them and this is carrying on into the home. Even negative attention is better than none.
I might have that completely wrong.
I am sure you are doing everything right as a parent, she may just need some outside coaching of some sort.
She certainly sounds very energetic!

my dd is kike that but she is five and in a special teaching facility! she cant handle beings in large groups so she is in a class of eight! she never sits still from lack of concentration

EmsTomot · 02/03/2007 19:38

Maybe she is advanced and therefore very bored in class - perhaps she does need to see a special teacher - someone who can challenge her a bit more.

School have made similar complaints about my Ds. He also has to touch everything and is never still!! Oil supplements (EPA rich) such as EYE Q, and eskimo have helped a little so may be worth a try if not already tried. We notice when Ds misses a few doses!

chlochlo · 10/03/2007 10:17

went to see teachers and they want her assesed by a paed asap so feeling a bit unsure they seem to be heading towards adhd or add they have already put her on a programme with the special needs teacher so its just a case of wait and see.

Hiya chlochlo

Don't be worried about teh Paed- its always better to get asnwers, imo.

I am wonderinng about the diet too- fish oils might help, and have you looked at salicylates? My ds sees a nutritionist at BIBIC (they ahve a website) and I would have thought your child would meet the criteria for them eprhaps- they telephone you and you chat over the symptoms, and they decide if they can help. Its not diagnosis absed, its purely behavioural and they cover things from dyslexxic tendencies and behavioural issues right up the spectrum. Have a look at the website but pleae dont think I am implying your LO has SN_ they're great with the sort of stuff mentioned above, in a holistic way. They were named long before they moved into this area.

But I am also wondering about boredom- sucha bright child does need to be challnged. What are they doing to meet those nneds I wonder?

Does she habve an IEP

chlochlo · 10/03/2007 10:44

I was wondering about the IEP thing they seemed to have a big foulder with things in they said they want to concentrate on chloe finding out her place in society and what is expected of her and boundaries and things. they said she isn't aware that her actions affect the people arond her and loads of other things they were really concerned about her social development which i was a bit shocked about. I think i will arrange another visit with dp cos i went on my own and was a bit overwhelmed iyswim.
I will look into the diet thing thanks.

They never mentioned what they were going to do to challenge her work they just said if she is this bright with these problems just think what she'd be like if they could get her to actually finish pieces of work.

Ds reacts to refined suger and artificial colours. When we first took these out of his diet we didn't really notice much of a difference but a month into it my mum gave him a lolly and 20 mins later he was racing around and completely off the wall. We have noticed since then that he reacts worst to artificial colours and that this can make him hyper on the day he has them and agitated for a couple of days after.

PeachyClair · 10/03/2007 11:21

BIBIC is more than just diet btw- its a total assessment (not medical) of your childs abilities and you get a program to do which focuses on these areas.

Ask for copies of the IEPs. You might need them at some point.

I know its not a nice plce to be, but you know early intervention and support is the best thing. There's a good chance your lo will grow out of a lot of this, and that will happen quicker with help.

PeachyClair · 10/03/2007 11:22

salicylates this worked somewhat for DS1, you'd be amazed bys ome fo the foods included...
