Hi after some advice please my DD started reception in September and at her parents evening last month we were told she was behind in her social development. This wasn't a surprise as she has always been a child that watches from the outside rather than joining in and is not good at initiating play or making friends.
This morning I happened to get her teacher alone for a minute and casually asked how was she doing at the moment was there improvement. Only to be answered that yes there was some but that he is involving the schools SEN coordinator with her, not for immediate work but for advice and the future.
I have a meeting booked in for after school on Friday to talk more and to see the paperwork he's filled out about it but it's floored me more than a little and I can't stop worrying about it now. I'm glad that the school is being active but I've no experience of this and neither has anyone else I know. Does anyone on here have experience of this so soon into school life? What would she do with her at this early stage?

I'd be delighted that my dc was at a school with such a proactive SEN Team, and under the care of a teacher who was aware of all the individual personalities in the class. Smile
They can do all sorts of little group activities to encourage interaction and/or play skills. From your dd's pov, she'd just be being chosen to play some games.

Yes I am glad and now I've had time to process it all I'm more positive. Think it was just a shock really. Thanks for the response.
