Dyslexia tutors

My 7year 9month old boy has dyslexia, clearly. He is August born, in year 3 and has reading test scores indicating his reading age as reception. He is bright, happy and charming and had Paediatric assessment ruling out autism, global delay and ADHD. When this was done, it was clear he had dyslexia. I've paid for private assessment which confirmed.
We discussed the School's approach and agreed that getting a private tutor (even with tight purse strings) may be best way forward. Finding one is difficult and when I called the helpline at British Dyslexia Association I was told that most find specialist dyslexia tutors through their networks.
I live in Bermondsey, SE16... no local networks known to me.
Can anyone help?

Interesting to read other blogs about how inconsistent the education response to this common learning condition is...

Look at the PATOSS website with a list of accredited tutors, call individuals and have a chat about what they do. If you are in Bermondsey I would also recommend contacting Bloomfield learning (located close to London Bridge) who are well regarded and offer ongoing support as well as specialist assessment.

I'd echo the above - the Bloomfield Learning Centre is the way to go - based near Guys Hospital.

Thank you both for those recommendations. I did try ringing Bloomfield but they were on holiday, so will revisit.

I echo Eltee. I'm a PATOSS assessor and tutor (not in your area). We are listed on the PATOSS site. Contact details are all there - and you can search according to location. Good luck!

The Bloomfield Learning Centre: Dyslexia assessment and lessons.

Both myself and two of my brothers attended The Bloomfield Learning Centre when we were kids. We have very fond memories of the excellent teachers there and have since been successful in our chosen professions (Teaching, Computer Programming and Medicine respectively).

The centre offers thorough and informative diagnostic assessments, one to one teaching sessions and all their assessors are dyslexia specialists. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Thank you Bloomfield!!
