Do schools have to follow IDSS assessment reports@

I am interested in finding out if my DS school is duty bound to follow an IDSS traded specialist teacher report? or can they just ignore it?

We have finally managed to get them to do assessments on our son and it has now come to light that he has SpLD's. He is already classed as able and gifted because he is so advanced in mathematics in Y4 and already doing high school maths. His SpLD's are very complicated but mainly around phoneme deletion, spelling and scotopic and I need to know as a parents what rights my son has and how I go about making sure that he is getting the help that the report states he needs.

Many thanks

Hi. If the stratagies are listed under 'recommendations ' then Unfortunetly no they don't have to do them.
If you get statutory assessment done then this is a legal binding document and the stratagies have to be done.

Heyho111 if I paid for the multi sensory stuff, do you think they might be more incline too follow that part of the report. I know with schools the cost of buying things often means they don't end up with the right support.

They probably would but I would have a meeting with the head and senco to devise a plan before spending money. It also depends on whether they need to release a member of staff to work with your child and if they have the staff to do that. I'm sure they would be accommodating within their means. Let me know what they say.
