Hi everyone.Today I started a job at a high school as a supply LSA. I am worling with 2 12 year old boys ( year 8). One has Dyspraxia and I know all about that because of my dayghter.
Yhhe other has Williams Syndrome. I have heard of this, but have not come across anyone with it before. Can any of you help me and let me know the best way to help this boy.
I was thrown into the deep end this morning as the LSA who was suppsed to be working with them is unable to come in untill at least half term. So the head phoned the agency I work for and asked for someone as soon as possible.
Thank you

I'll bump this as there was a thread a while ago so someone should be able to help. DH's sister, sadly now died, had Williams and I knew so little about it at the time so will follow this with interest.

Thank you Christie.
I have noticed that this boy is sensitive to noise and gets in a pit of a panic ifA teaacher sjhouts at the other children. He also gets confused if something different is happening.
I have learnt a bit more today as someone from pupil support came to asses how he was doing and had a word with me about him.

Hi Christie
Just a quick question. The boy I work with who has Williams syndrome tends to fidget a lot and shake his head around, particulary if you have asked him to do something he doesn't want to do. Have you noticed this with the girls at your school?
Also he gets upset if you tell him to stop doing something or get on get on with his work. It does not matter how gently you have told him he just loks sad and gets tense. Have you or anybody got any suggestions about what I can do to help him with this?
Thank youi

Does the child with Williams syndrome have a statement? If so, then a read of Appendix D (EP report) should provide you with lots of info about the child you are teaching. Williams syndrome can affect children in different ways, although there are obviously some commonalities. The most useful info to you is how this child is affected by the Williams syndrome.
