Was hoping to get some feel for the school (prior to first visit) from current parents.

Any thoughts / comments welcome.

Hi, I am new here but would really like to get insides on More House School in Farnham Surrey, especially the admission criteria and its suitability for my DS. He is 8yrs old, with ASD and ADD. We visited the school and love it but seems very selective. Would love to speak to any parents who have been accepted with ASD child. Thank you!

dadmt · 27/11/2018 16:30

Speak to the school about the admission criteria. From an existing parent point of view the admission criteria seems to be whether the school believes it can help your son (see also above). My son has ADHD. MH has been great for him. He's not ASD so I cannot help there beyond saying there are pupils at the school with ASD.

Hi. I want to join this thread. I've spoken to the admissions team about my DS (Year 5), and sent in his EP report and ASD diagnosis. On paper it seems like an amazing school, so I am really looking forward to visiting at the open day in February.

tarantinotpf · 05/12/2018 17:40

Thanks so much dadmt - this is extremely useful insight. We actually sent our paperwork and it was really nerve wracking while they reviewed, but we have been offered a meeting with the headmaster now, so we are hopeful.

SpringerLink · 06/12/2018 11:40

@tarantiontpf how long did they take to review the paperwork? Just sent mine off this week but it hasn’t been acknowledged. I know Christmas is a busy time, so I expect it’s just that.

EmmaGemma · 07/12/2018 08:02

They took nearly 3 weeks to review mine. I heard back this week. The admissions team are very busy at the moment. I'm really hopeful as my son was in tears last night.

SpringerLink · 07/12/2018 10:37

Thank you. Was it positive from the school? I’m trying not to get my hopes up too much, but it looks perfect for my son so it’s hard not to.

EmmaGemma · 07/12/2018 15:51

We're seeing them next week so fingers crossed although we need to fight for. EHC plan as well.

SpringerLink · 07/12/2018 18:16

Good luck! As I’m trying to manage my expectations, do you have any idea if there are always spaces available at the school, or is it often full? I’m trying not to fixate on getting DS a place there, but finding it hard as it seems so much better than other choices.

EmmaGemma · 07/12/2018 19:51

I don't know but I'll ask next week and come back to you. I am hoping they do as I doubt we would have funding by september and we can't afford it otherwise.

SpringerLink · 07/12/2018 23:22

Thank you. We’re also just starting EHCP process too.

tarantinotpf · 12/12/2018 14:10

Springerlink it took 9 days for the paperwork review. Bear in mind it is their end of term this week too. Good luck everyone.

Hi there, I hope you don’t mind me bombing in but I’m curious as to how you got in EmmaGemma? We are looking at it as a yr 7 option for our son. What was the meeting with the head like?

April2020mom · 24/01/2019 20:19

We are considering this school. Any advice on what sort of questions to ask will be appreciated. DD and DS are 2 years old now.

Is it a primary or secondary school? Is it a public or private school? Is it a Christian or secular school? Do they take disabled children or not?
Where can I view the OFSTED report for the school? How do I find out more information about the school?

Raaaaaah · 24/01/2019 20:33

I think that you are considering a different school. This is More House, Frensham not More House, Kensington.

HChen · 05/02/2019 10:17

Hiya, Emma, how is everything going for your visit, we are try looking for school for my son, he was 6 1/2 years old, he has had EHCP. He was study in COIN center. can I ask does More house school accept the funding or not? Thanks!

GridGal · 10/05/2019 19:28

Dear tarantinotpf, SpringerLink, Raaah and EmmaGemma

Our son has a similar profile to tarantinotpf he is 7. We were bowled over by MH when we went to the open day. However to go there we would have to move from London and try to get a funded place. Our son is HF but no einstein so i was wondering how you all fared and if your boys will be starting there this September! I hope so and it would be good to hear your journeys and if any of you got a funded place. We could probably afford partly funded . Thanks in advance!

imjustataxidriver · 10/05/2019 20:08

Hi, I have my interview with the HM later this month. I was really impressed at the open day and know that my son would flourish there. We are looking at boarding from Year 6 but starting as a day pupil from Jan next year (yr 5). My son has an EHCP but we are expecting to self fund the fees (haven’t figured out how we are going to manage that yet!). Are the funded places associated with council funding through EHCPs?

Raaaaaah · 15/05/2019 11:57

Hi GridGal,
I’m not sure how helpful this is. Our son will be going in yr 7, sept 2020. We are trying to figure out how it is going to work as we live a fair hike away and will have to move. Our son has an EHCP but we were going to self fund as we are able and frankly couldn’t be arsed with anymore hassle. However we were considering moving to an area with a LA funded bus route and to use the bus route you have to have to have a funded place in order to apply for transport Confused. It all seems a bit ridiculous as we are happy to pay for the place and transport. Without the bus the journey is longer although I think a fair few boys do it.

Please feel free to PM me. I have found a couple of other posters really helpful in that respect. It’s great to share ideas and woes.

Usernamealreadyexists · 18/05/2019 11:05

Hello. My son is 8 and has HFA. We live in C London and he currently attends a prep school. I will be visiting MH (which I’m v excited about).
Has anyone’s child commuted from London? Are there any shared transport from London. I’m hoping not to move to benear the school but I don’t want the journey to be exhausting for my boy either. Any advice? We don’t have an EHCP but will apply if he gets a spot.

Lookingfor6thform · 09/02/2020 17:48

Hi All, just wondering if there are parents whose son go to 6th Form at More House school? My son has ASD and academically has done very well up until year 9 but has been finding it difficult for the last year.
Wanted to find out how boys do at school during 6th Form and what the postural care like for the older boys?
