My son is in year 4 he still can barely read and write he seems to have memory problems. He's under a consultant ped. And has a ep I don't know what I should be demanding? He's got the same levels as a child in reception. I have done lots over the years as have the school such as intervention programmes and one to one ta support. Any suggestions?

Does he have a statement of special educational need? If you have one to one TA time I guess he does. I think others will have great ideas about strategies to help but I would concentrate on reinforcing everything he is taught and I would work with the school and Ed Psych to see what education might be suitable in the future as he is likely to struggle with the KS3 curriculum and may get disillusioned with school. I don't think there is a magic solution here but you need to make sure he remains happy at school an makes progress, however small. Be realistic and celebrate small achievements. The Ed Psych should advise classroom and teaching strategies and be working with the school to ensure they are being implemented. A statement should also state what he needs. You can help by helping him practice what he is learning.

To know how to help, you need to understand what his barriers to learning are......you need at the very least an ed psych assessment, and probably a SALT assessment, at the very least. There are just so many reasons that he may not be progressing.
