Auditory Process Disorder vs Information Processing score

Dear Forum,

My little one is diagnosed to have Severe Language Disorder. She is also diganosed by one Speech and Language therapist to have some Auditory Processing Disorder and by another SLT to have auditory memory difficulty. Educational Psychologist said she has Short Term Auditory Memory but scored high in Information Processing (IP). She is easily distracted, fiddles with things, fidgetting... which are all the symptoms of APD (I think). BUT her padietrician does not think she has APD because she scored high in IP. I am pretty certain that she has APD. Does anyone know the difference between APD and IP.

Thanks

I don't know but I imagine IP is in relation to all information, not just information gained by auditory means.
I think you should try to get back in touch with the EP.

From my own experience, I would suggest you get your child to a consultant audiological physician as only through very thorough assessment of their hearing and responses to sound can APD be clearly diagnosed. IMO, I don't think a general paediatrician would be qualified to assess this fully. Moreover, APD is a medical condition so an EP is not qualified to say.

My own DC has APD diagnosis amongest other things yet has normal hearing as it relates to how DC processes sound. Great Ormond Street hospital has one of the leading consultants in this field and I highly recommend you contact them. Also look at www.apduk.org.uk and www.baap.org.uk for more information.

Cannot comment on information processing.
