obviously thats great but it's got me confused,
He's had a year of specialist teaching 1 to 1 and his sats have him (end of year 5) as a 4b

Last year he was a 2b Irrc

I KNOW sats are a complete waste of time but really ....

Wtf ?

Should I crack one the champers ?

Great news!

There are different ways of testing reading... eg, tests for comprehension, tests for vocabulary, tests for phonic awareness.

My son has dyslexia and his reading is ahead of average (Level 5 SATS in Yr 6) but he still has problems with writing, punctuation, maths and spelling. His reading comprehension is really good but his ability to de-code new words is not so good.

Hopefully your son will take off at secondary!

I'm dyslexic, not noticed at school. When I was 13 they did an entire year reading test. They gave a reading age up to age 17. I didn't get an age because I was 'off the scale'.

Apparently one of the teachers marking it asked the class she was teaching who I was because she didn't recognise the name - er that would be because I was in the bottom set.

I still have problems with writing - I don't hand write anything if I can avoid it. I do still missread the odd word but on the whole that is not a problem for me.
