Provision mapping

We are approaching the final weeks of my sons first year at secondary school and I am really disappointed with the level help he has received. The school uses provision mapping and he is on school action plus for aural comprehension skills. He also struggles with writing and organisation.
Any help has been part of a group and not targeted at his needs - he attended a social skills workshop (not really needed) but this was all the school could offer.
The main problem he has is that he seems unable to write any detail for his homework in his school diary and so as parents we can't work out what he has to do, when it has to be in and what the subject is (sometimes).
I've asked the school for more help with this and for them to supply an ongoing curriculum so we can plan ahead they seem unable to help as I've been asking the SENCO since the beginning of the school year.
Should I write to the head? or get him referred to an educational psychologist?

Provision mapping is basically a document which shows what interventions are in place for all pupils in your school. I am a SEN teacher and we use Provision Map to carry out this task but we also write IEPs (individual education plans) for all pupils who are school action plus or statemented - these are much more detailed than a provision map. If you are unhappy I would always suggest you put something in writing to the head teacher.

I would write to the LEA in question and apply personally for a Statement of special needs if your son's needs are not being met on SA plus.
