my youngest DS has never been dx with anything in particular, but he is on the autistic spectrum, had concentration issues, ADHD and general learning difficulties (he has a full statement and attends a special school).

Whilst he is 12 years old, he is about 7/8 on the social side, about 6 on the learning side.

Today the part I have been dreading happened "mum, whys there hair on my widge?" The answer we gave was that he was growing up (the school nurse suggested waiting until he started puberty to discuss with him rather than before so not to confuse him). Whilst we are happy to discuss with him 'growing up' my main worry is when sexual urges start to occur, and explaining that. He is very 'friendly' and does not recognise personal space etc.

Any experiences/help/guidence that anyone can give on this stage??

Is he at a special school ? If so they have buckets of experience of dealing with this.

If no ask the school SENCO. My mates son had special resources that he could understand when they did sex ed at his main stream primary that we're loaned from the special school that he moved to in year 7.

The usbourne " what's happening to me" books are great ( come in a oys and girls format " and we're what we had for dd2 when she start puberty abnormally early at 7yrs .
