My Grandchild finds it difficult to read and struggling with the phonics and spelling side of things... i've bought an ipad - although its all new to me at the moment. Does anybody have any recommendations for useful apps to help with reading and writing?

Phonics can be very difficult for some SN kids to grasp..some never do.

Try some look and say books - I am using the Ladybird Peter and Jane Key word books atm with my son and he loves them!

The illustrations are fab - if a little old fashioned.....we have had a real laugh about the old cars shown and the girl making beds with mummy and the boy washing the car with daddy Smile

If you go on amazon you will find lots of books....try and find something he/she is interested in...cars/animals etc and get a book on that subject.

Sorry, dont know much (anything) about ipads.

www.clicketybooks.co.uk/ try these. The publisher has put a lot of thought into them to ensure that children with autism can enjoy them. Smile

Agree with Becaroo, phonics can be difficult, my dd2 (5) has started to read without learning phonics but she has self taught by watching TV and playing games on the PC, i dont know much about the i-pad but i'm sure there must be some apps out there and an Autistic child may find it a lot easier learning with the i-pad (or a pc) rather than being taught in a class room by a teacher.

Good luck, i wish my dd's had a granny as helpful as you xx
