hi, my ds (yr6) has always had an IEP, as he has a minor disability and it was felt that should he need help with s< etc then they would be prepared. He has never had any problems with his spelling/sight words, nor with his reading age, he is brill in all other subjects, but ... he does have a slight behaviour issue, basically he has a very rigid sense of right or wrong & if he feels unfairly told off etc, he will literally shut down and ignore everyone (which infuriates the teachers) this happens about once a year at school. Last year I wanted him taken off of the school action plan, but his then teacher suggested it became a SA+ and that they would seek outside help, possibly an ed pysch or therapist to help minimise any problems in secondary school. Well I've received a copy of his SA+ and it is ridiculous, his short term objectives are to develop scissor skills, to improve handwriting, to use the gym trail weekly and to be involved in weekly game sessions !!! he has pretty neat writing, he can certainly use scissors and when I asked him, he isn't getting any of the 1-1 or group sessions that they are claiming on his IEP. I have had different issues with the school, and I have had to complain, right up to county/LEA level, so I don't really want to kick up a fuss again !! but I do know that a lot of the 1-1/group sessions that they claim they do with other children, don't happen. I really want my ds to be taken off of the SA+ especially as his sats are coming up, and he would be most upset if he was treated differently (ie given more time/help) than his friends and as the school haven't given him any extra help, or requested outside help, why should he be on it? can I just request he be taken off? can they refuse?

I would go and talk to the headteacher.

If you need independent advice IPSEA are useful

thanks mavisenderby, but unfortunately the HT and the SENCO were the members of staff I complained about and in the last year, I have only spoken to them when I absolutely have to and even then, I really don't want to, and generally I avoid talking to any of the teachers as I am very disappointed in the whole school, I do talk to my dc current teachers, but again, only if I have to, its a very uncomfortable situation to be in, I think i'm now labelled the troublemaker, sometimes the teachers look petrified if they see me approach them :-(

thanks for the link to IPSEA :-)
