Possible Aspergers at 16 - should I tell school?

We sent my son for a dyspraxia assessment because his handwriting is so awful that he lost marks in his GCSE mocks. The ed psych woman said he IS dyspraxic, and she's written a report which does what we want - gets him a laptop and extra time - but she's also suggested that he has Asperger's. I think this is because his verbal scores were much higher than his spatial scores, and because he's always made poor eye contact, but he doesn't have other traits. He does struggle a bit socially, but slso has good friends.

She wanted us to tell the school, but then it would be a permanent feature of his record. I have NO IDEA what the consequences would be or whether they would be good, but it seems a big label to hang on him. I'm also clueless about how to help him or what he needs, assuming she is right. I visited the society's website, but all the advice seemed to be for much younger children. I'd appreciate any help.

Wow brindle, what a tough time for you and your ds, can I suggest that you post this in the Special needs children section as there are lots of people around on there who might be able to help.
