I have a 12 yr ds who is in yr 6 he has Aspergers, dyslexicia and sensory probs. He has spent the last 5 yrs in a small prep school after leaving the special school. We have been so happy with him there and so has he but at the end of this school year he will have to leave. He really doesn't cope with large places and has always been better in small classes of less than 15. We are restatementing him again.
Now considering schools we stuck between the local and specialist provision and face fighting the lea to tribunal to get the provision that would help him. I have made some appointments to visit 2 specialist schools and we have already been round the local comps. What has it been like for others

I am sorry to seem unhelpful but tbh it is going to depend entirely upon the individual school and how your child will cope.

You have to do your visits, let you child go with you and look too, and then make the best choice you can.

Ds2 was always going to need specialist provision at 11 so it was not an issue.

But even with ds1 who has no issues, we involved him in the process so that he felt invested in the school we chose.

No school will be perfect we just have to make the best choice we can based on what we know our child needs.
