I need to go USA but am scared because of al the immigration rules and stuff on social media. Wondered if anyone has been through recently and how was it?

Following. If they really are going through social media accounts I won’t be getting into the US for some time! I have been openly critical of the Trump administration and don’t see why I should stop doing so.

Meadowfinch · 08/07/2025 10:58

No, I've put it off until Trump is gone.

Watching with interest.

I went through it the weekend before last. No scrutiny of social media, they just checked my passport, asked a few questions, took fingerprints and that was it. Very straightforward, just a long queue.

have been through 5-6 times this year, different airports, always been fine. They’re much more interested in students and those who can’t really explain why they’re visiting.

Where will you be flying from OP?

I would be a bit concerned about entry, not because I'm on the banned list or anything (that I know of!), just the FEAR of being denied entry for whatever reason and be sent home or detained. I know that might be a bit irrational but it's real to me.

Would you be able to fly via Shannon or Dublin? There is pre clearance there which means if there are any issues at least you are not in the US, and could get back to UK easily. If I had to go to the US (no intention at the moment), that's what I would do.

It's also quicker in Ireland, apparently. My sister did this route so her kids didn't have to queue for as long as she'd heard Florida was horrific for queues.

My DC are half Asian half white Irish. The last time DS went to NY he was puzzled as to why people were speaking to him in Spanish. He was answering them in his passable Spanish (worked in South America for a while years ago). Then realised they thought he was from SA. I can't see it myself, but unfortunately anyone who has dark brown eyes and olive skin is fair game. I wouldn't want any of us to go to USA for any reason atm. I don't think it is safe.

Sorry - I didn't realise what board this was. I just saw the OP and it resonated as my DS's experience was comparatively recent, but before Trump got in. I am sorry you are in this situation OP.

Cherryonthecupcake · 09/07/2025 07:56

@SecretsofTombs that happens to me too! Except I don’t speak any Spanish so I just stand there with a confused look on my face.

I was there in December but everything seems to have ramped up in a negative way recently so I’m worried. Would be New York and another separate trip to Florida. Thinking I will have to get out of it.
I am a professional with no problems just worried to be declined due to ‘looking the wrong type’
