I want to start my own business but I am so terrified of failure! Has anybody else felt like this?

What’s your idea?

The statistics of start up businesses failing are off the scale so you are right to be concerned I think.

Is your business idea something you could start in tandem with your current job? That’s how I have always set up new projects.

Super hard in the initial stages but much safer.

I’ve been made redundant

Facing redundancy here too….

I’ve been reading about cake sheds….i can’t bake AT ALL but I can make chocolates

I’m wondering if I can get a small shed in the front garden, either for chocolates or home-grown plants (which might be easier in terms of licensing etc)

I’ve been looking for jobs for several months and it is pretty awful out there. I’ve never found it so difficult to get a new job in my entire professional career.

Chocolate shed would need cooling equipment and I suspect the council would still charge £££ for hygiene assessments.

Home grown plants people just don’t want to pay decent money for unless it’s something super rare which is good for mail order (I trained as a commercial grower so know that market)

What area were you in before redundancy? Just wondering if there’s a different market for your skills someone could suggest.

It’s certainly tough times.

Me too...I would be happier self employed/in a collective though. I can't face any more corporate failure. Trying to screw my courage to the sticking point.

If you can make chocolate can you make sweets? I know they are from the same thing, but it's not baking! Or is there something you could specilaise in with your chocolates like choc cookies and become known for it? You could be the "cookie cupboard" rather than a cake shed!

This is helpful with legalities and covering off the admin side of things:

Same here. I’ve never not got a job or passed the cv or interview stage until this last year!

Round our way gardeners and handymen are always hard to find. Don’t know if that helps. My Friend was very surprised at how much money she made regular gardening - she charges £25 an hour.
and the handyman was really surprised how much money he made as a side hustle. So much so that he is planning to give up his main job.
might be a thought?
