If I can offer one bit of advice on naming your business from someone who works in branding, it’s to try to resist the fun pun (as tempting as it is!).

They’re great for a smile, but they don’t really help you get found and that’s crucial for a new business. From an SEO and discoverability point of view, it’s usually much stronger to use a name that clearly says what you do and where you do it.

Think about it, most of us will literally Google things like “interior designer in Bristol” or “accountant in Leeds”, not a clever play on words they don’t know yet. A clear, descriptive name builds trust faster, helps with search results and makes it instantly obvious who you’re for.

You can always inject personality through your branding and tone, but your name doing the heavy lifting upfront really pays off in the long run I promise!

I agree. I've just searched for a plumber this afternoon. I googled plumber and my suburb. Then I chose one with a rubber duck on his logo.

Couldn't agree with you more - very good advice! If you have a USP try and work that in but not in a clunky way.

Check the trademark register as well before you go out and spend money on your branding when you find a name you like.
