How to become a plumber / electrician

I’m sure this has been asked but I can’t find it. I’m an accountant considering a career change (it’s too stressful and I can never switch off from it).

Is it possible to train as a plumber part time without being salary-free for years? I want to re-train as a plumber or electrician but I also want to be around for school drop off / pick up a few days a week. I don’t mind being without a salary for a year but much more than that just isn’t doable.

Ultimately I’d like to be self-employed

Any advice massively appreciated.

Look for courses at your local college. Maybe some could be part-time.

Hi OP, my partner attended night college to qualify as an electrician. This meant he could continue to work and earn during the day and went to college 2 nights per week. Doing it this way worked best for our suituation at the time but meant he was at college for about 3 years. He also had to take out a student loan to pay for the course, exams, books etc.
Once he qualified he then started as a trainee electrician for a local business so was on low per pay hour but with overtime, travel time and weekend work earned very good money quickly.
I wouod contact local colleges to you and see what is on offer.
My partner has been qualified for over 12 years now and is still working in the field and they are always on the hunt for electricians.
