Is income protection worth it and any recommendations?

I work through my own limited company. I have one main client so my job is fairly secure.

However I'm a single parent, and my reserves aren't amazing so I couldn't afford any time of work. I've only recently re-started pension contributions.

I've been looking at various types of insurance - I'm wondering if income protection is worth it and who offers the best deals / cover.

Any advice?

I have it - I’m a single parent too so losing my job would be disastrous - it’s worth the £30 a month for peace of mind if nothing more - this is based on a back to day one policy paying out for 6 months at £1400 (which is enough to cover mortgage and council tax and utilities only) and then any stat redundancy and unemployment would help with the rest. My redundancy is about 4 months pay so that would give me 10 months to find work
I didn’t think you could get it for self employed though - or if you pay yourself through a limited company are you classed as employed? Or it’s likely to be much much more expensive as you’d need a specialist broker?

My husband had it. He was ill for 10 years before he died. It gave us 60% of his income tax free for all this time meaning our standard of living didn't drop. It was worth every penny
