Anyone here an expert or know an expert in laundromats? I’ve been thinking to purchase a business that’s relatively simple to run for my simple brain. Love the idea of running a semi self service laundromat. Any leads please?

thanks 🧼

I have often thought that there’s a gap in the market for a clean laundromat with added value. Somewhere you can sit with a laptop, buy a coffee and wait whilst your laundry is cleaned and blouses ironed for you.
Some of the ones near us are pretty unenticing places!

Edit - forgot my main point which was to encourage you and wish you luck!

Which area do you live in?

And yes, that would be such a good thing. I’d love someone to do that for me while I can work on my laptop!

I think this would ve good if it has areas to sit and study, work, Internet scroll. Drinks and snacks available with table, chairs and sofa. Good WiFi and maybe a tv

A launderette near me is barely keeping it afloat because of machine breakdowns and the cost of fuel to run them

Good points. Thanks.

How do you know they are struggling? How big is it and are the machines old or new?

Would you be coin operated or cash? If cash, look into your banking arrangements. I listened to an interesting article on ‘You and Yours’ about banking closures. A man who owned a coin-operated laundrette was finding it increasingly difficult to deposit his takings due to the closure of multiple bank branches.

I also think that you might need someone staffing the premises to resolve problems.

our local laundrette is card only and operates with tokens.
it's operated by a seamstress who does alterations on site and also offers a laundry service.
they have a discount arrangement with the cafe next door.

machine service contracts cost a bomb. and if you allow pet items or horse blankets machines break.
insurance costs a bomb.
the dryers are prone to fires if not maintaines often due to lint from unsuitable items

It's a well established coin operated launderette

It's run by people who have another shop next door (entirely different business) and who live upstairs

Every time I'm there, the son or the dad is trying to fix a problem and complaining about replacing smashed windows (rough area), the cost of repairs (old-ish washers, but new dryers) and the cost of fuel and water

Electricity, water and gas are all metered

Good to hear and get different perspectives. Thank you
