Looking to start a new business selling clothes online. After looking for shipping options and asking for advice on MN I have zeroed in on going to use Royal Mail. I haven’t actually spoken to them yet neither have I opened an online account with them. Before I do so, please could someone advise what to do with providing returns labels for the customer? I can’t seem to find this information anywhere on the RM website. Is this something they will let me know all about once I have opened an account with them? I am very confused. Please could someone help/ advise?

Are you offering free returns? If so, I hope you've got a massive profit margin and lots of money behind you before you start.

Gosh I’m so naive! Definitely didn’t think about it. So would the customer return it at their own costs? Is that acceptable?

It's legal as long as your terms and conditions are the same as the Consumer Contract Regulations but not particularly desirable to your customers.

Thank you. I am keeping prices low so hoping that would sway the customers to the product. But thank you for opening my eyes to this.

What volume will you anticipate sending per day /week?

I don't want to be negative, but I really really don't think there's going to be any money in this. When somebody orders an item in a particular size, how will you get hold of it? The only time you can make money from clothing is buying in massive bulk from a foreign country.

I’m not sure what you’re assuming here? I genuinely don’t understand what your question is? I just wanted to know what the returns label policy is Which Delilahbucket has thrown light on. Thank you for your concern and assuming what my business model should be/is.

Not a lot but hoping around 10 per week.

If it's 10 per week just get a label printer, pack up your items and take to mailshop or post office. It's done by size, weight and speed of delivery.

I had an etsy store doing about 20 per week and I always did it like this no bother.

Amazon is good for packing supplies

If you are just anticipating ten packages a week going out you won't get an account with Royal Mail. If you ever want to offer free returns, Royal Mail do offer a service where customers can print their own returns label and you get charged for it. You need to be sending a large volume to have this service on your account.
You have a few options for sending, use RM Click and Drop, where you label yourself and drop at a Post Office or Delivery Office, take them to the Post Office and do it the traditional way or you can use Drop and go which is run by the Post Office.
