How long did it take for things to get going?

Just that really, I've just launched my website and done a few bits of marketing but visitors are quite slow and not many sales yet. How long did it take to pick up for you and what are your tips for getting things moving please?

What do you sell?

Are you retailing or offering a service? If retailing, you need very deep advertising pockets for a brand new website.

I'm selling products that have a cult following and not previously available in the uk. I have a social media following that I've spent a year building but obviously need to get in front of more people. Is google ads the way forward/worth the money ?

I would say most brands start by selling on marketplaces. Then you can expand to own site?

I sell on etsy and do about 30-40 orders a month. I will do my own transactional site when I have a minute.

Could etsy / Amazon / on buy etc work for you?

I doubt you'd have the budget for Google ads, to rank highly would cost a lot of money

Any type of advertising is worth it, if you know what you are doing. Otherwise you might as well throw your money in the bin. For Google advertising, a successful campaign will cost you 50% of the sales it brings in. Have you got the margin for that?
Online market places are definitely a better place to start. The buyers are already there and waiting.

I would use ebay & Amazon.

I sell an unusual type of thing and sell really well on these sites. I also have a website, but more for a "landing" place.
I feel that building up traffic on a website may be hard and expensive.
Not impossible, but needs a lot of effort in social media or £££ in advertising.
Ebay and Amazon do take a cut- around 19%, but selling costs money, whether it is in ebay fees, rent on an actual shop or advertising.

Thank you for the input.
I already have my website and have had 5 orders in the first week which is not bad as my items are a bit pricey.
Will take on board all your experiences with ads etc 👍
